VERY APPROXIMATE JANUARY 2012 TIDE CHART FOR BALI

Time and tide wait for no man, but Indonesian bureaucracy saunters along at its own pace. Indonesia is a maritime archipelago, with hundreds of harbors and lots of shipping, and you’d think the 2012 tide charts would have been available before the end of 2011 to all harbors, much more so an important one like Benoa, Bali. But hey, this is the land of kira-kira and mungkin nanti.

What I’ve done is taken the January 2011 chart figures and adjusted that month’s full moon to this January’s full moon (which falls this month on the 9th, new moon on the 23rd). THIS IS APPROXIMATE, only an arm chair exercise without even actually getting going out to observe the ocean, much less frolic in it, because it’s been flat for a week over here on the east side and I did not get a SUP for Christmas. This is only meant to give a sense of spring tides and neap tides and their ranges. DO NOT USE this chart for any accurate fiddly things.

Please don’t complain about this not being accurate. Be in harmony with nature, in tune with the tides.

Transcribing and transposing these figures was a tedious exercise, so this is this week’s blog post.

It’ll be interesting to compare how accurate this is to the official Jan 2012 charts. Hopefully I won’t have to do this for February.
