The Cocaine Zodiac

There’s this book called Snowing in Bali which has been sizzling through the bookshelves and e-readers of many of Bali’s resident expats. The book is a tell-all account of Bali’s hedonistic, nose-sparkling drug and party decades of the 80s and 90s. Many of us around during that time see right through the pseudonyms, and know who is who and where is where and what is what. The book focuses mostly on the cocaine trade, pretty much leaving the darker smack business still in the shadows.

Anyway, the book mentions one of the drug baron’s (a surfer, most of the biz coat-tailed on Bali’s surfing culture) Zodiac. I bring this up because I remember that Zodiac quite well, the first one of its kind zooming around the west side breaks, from Kuta to Ulu Reef. From what I heard, it was then sold to Mick Little.

Now, it’s jukungs and jet-skis.

I was rescued by a zodiac back in 1989, surfing Kuta Reef, when our lift hadn’t come back for us. The same one??!!
